This server promotes “Paragraph Roleplay,” or Para-RP, a form of dynamic creative writing where players take turns adding to the story one paragraph at a time. These are the basic rules and etiquette Para-RP players are expected to follow while playing on this server.
- Know the difference between IC and OOC.
No godmoding, powergaming or metagaming.
- Godmoding
- Typing emotes that dictate the actions of someone else's character in a scene.
- Powergaming
- Ignoring the successful strikes against you in combat or intimating or claiming invincibility.
- Metagaming
- Using information ICly that you learned OOCly. Just because you know something, doesn't mean your character does.
- Adhere to post order and wait your turn before posting again.
- Try to limit posts to one paragraph unless you are running a scene in some way, like describing what others see when they first happen upon your character. When one-on-one with another player, longer posts may be more enjoyable. In large groups, it's encouraged to shorten your posts to one or two sentences. It's not just about how fast you type, it's also how fast others read, so try to be conscientious and adjust accordingly. This adjustment practice is sometimes referred to as “semi-para,” where players try to match those around them, which is not a bad idea. However, sometimes you need to be the example for others instead, adjusting based on numbers rather than what others are doing.
- Let others know when you go and return from AFK. It’s easier to be patient when we know what to expect. If you are going to be gone longer than 15 minutes, consider posting out of the scene instead. You can always post back in.
- Maintain the immersion of the RP in every aspect of your play: character names, pet/thrall names, clan names, base builds, etc.
- Use your AFK, OOC and NSFW tags so others know whether they should engage you in RP or not. The NSFW tag is a warning that your scene may not be safe for those at work or with kids in the room. It is NOT a “Do Not Disturb” tag, so please don't use it that way.
- Players are encouraged to put only things others can see or figure out about your character in your bio. It could also include rumors or things that could be learned by simply asking around a bit. It's fun to put lies or incorrect rumors here too.
- Try to be in character and ready for RP at all times, but you are trusted to be OOC when you need to be. Too tired to RP is a legitimate reason! But try not to be OOC in the middle of ongoing RP. Avoid disrupting other people's RP with non-RP chat or actions when possible.
- Roleplay does not have to be random and spontaneous. You are allowed to arrange OOC to “accidentally” run into someone you want your character to meet. Try to make an effort to meet everyone IC. If you are new to the server, please be patient. Sometimes, there are high intrigue plots going on that require privacy or keep someone you want to RP with busy for up to two weeks of their available playtime. It's not a brush off, it just takes time to get your character woven into the ongoing stories. On the flip side, try not to leave others waiting for interaction any longer than absolutely necessary. Communicate and coordinate OOC as needed.
